How do business finance brokers get paid?

It's a fair question, and you should always get a straight answer. Here's how broker remuneration generally works in UK commercial finance.

Commission from lenders

Most commercial finance brokers are paid a commission by the lender when a facility completes. The amount varies by lender, product and deal size. It's usually built into the lender's pricing rather than added as a separate charge to you.

Broker fees

Some brokers also charge the client a fee — for example on complex or large cases. Any fee should be agreed in writing before work starts, with clarity on when it's payable and whether it's refundable.

What you should be told

  • Whether the broker receives commission from the lender, and that it can vary between lenders
  • Any fee you'll pay directly, and when
  • Whether the broker works with a panel of lenders or just one or two

How Belgrave Finance works

We're an independent broker working with a panel of lenders. How we're paid, including lender commission, is set out in our Terms of Business, which we share before we act for you. If anything is unclear, just ask us.
